No more messy impression material when you need a veneer, crown, or bridge
Visits to our office are a more comfortable and interactive experience for patients with the new Lava Chairside Oral Scanner C.O.S. Traditionally, impressions for patients who need crowns or bridges would involve bulky plastic trays, messy impression materials, and, most importantly, the uncomfortable wait times that patients endure while the impression materials set in their mouths. Thanks to the Lava C.O.S., we can now capture impressions digitally, without any of the challenging materials or unpleasant wait times. Our practice is the first in Stoneham, MA to offer the Lava C.O.S. and one of the first in the northeast to offer this revolutionary technology.
Using a small, lightweight wand consisting of a highly complex optical system, video images, using the entirely new method of data capture called 3D-in-Motion, are captured as the want tip glides over patients’ teeth. The system captures large amounts of visual images every second and displays them in real time on a touch screen monitor. We can review the digital impression with patients while they are still sitting in the chair. This proprietary technology has not yet been used in any other industry, making the dental industry the first to benefit from this amazing breakthrough in digital imaging. Once we have reviewed the digital impression, the file is sent to their dental lab to produce the final restorations.
Besides improving patient communication and comfort, the digital impressions have the added benefit of producing much more accurate impressions, and, therefore, helping to deliver much better fitting crowns and bridges which reduces the amount of time patients spend in the dental chair. This technology truly is revolutionizing dentistry.
“Patient complaints about the impression process are common,” acknowledges Dr. William Lund. “Now we can give them a comfortable, engaging, and high-tech experience. The patient’s teeth are displayed in real time on a touch screen monitor and reviewed with each patient, something that was never possible with traditional impressions. This fosters better communication between the two of us and comes at no extra cost to the patient.”
“We are always striving to stay on the cutting edge and to provide the best dental care possible,” states Dr. Cara Lund. “Our office is state-of-the art with computers in every treatment room, digital x-rays, an intraoral camera, a soft-tissue laser, computerized color matching for crowns and bridges, and implant placement. The Lava C.O.S. helps us to obtain our goal of optimal dental care.”
